Happy Filipino American History Month!

Every year, we observe Filipino American History Month (#FAHM) throughout the month of October. We use this month to highlight and celebrate the vast contributions and positive impact that Filipinos have brought to the United States by celebrating and uplifting these contributions and how they have shaped us.

This year’s FAHM theme is very fitting: Past, Present and Future. As NaFFAA celebrates its 25th year since its founding, we are reminded of our vision statement that ties the past, present and future together.

“NaFFAA envisions a unified Filipino American community that is culturally, economically, and politically empowered and engaged.  Its vision is to serve as the voice of all Filipinos and Filipino Americans by uniting, engaging, and empowering diverse individuals and community organizations through leadership development, civic engagement, and national advocacy.”

As we celebrate the vast contributions FilAms have made to America’s history, let’s ensure we keep service to our community top of mind. What is our vision for our local Filipino community? How can we, as community leaders, move us one step closer to that goal?

To honor Filipino American History Month, we will highlight the impactful work our leaders have done to move the needle across the nation. We will highlight the different regions across the U.S. that vary in industry backgrounds, outreach approach, social-economic groups, and multiple generations, each bringing a unique gift to the table.

We hope highlighting these stories will allow for the voices across the nation to find common ground for tool sharing, partnership, representation, and inclusion. By sharing and finding this common ground, we can further explore how the Filipino American community can work in lockstep together and in the same direction.

Please share your stories at: info@naffaa.org

Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat,

It’s not too late to participate! The Filipino-American Survey project is the first of its kind and is planned to be a bi-annual effort in the future. It is an opportunity to learn from and amplify the voices of our community. Through the data in the survey, we seek to unveil the needs, priorities and perspectives of Filipino-Americans. Additionally, we hope to discover the motivations of our community in order to dispel myths, correct inaccurate portrayals and draw inspiration from each other. We will leverage participants, partners, researchers, and grassroots organizations to make this possible. Click the QR code to participate.
