NaFFAA Condemns Tragic Attack at Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver, BC; Offers Condolences and Calls for Unity and Justice

Washington, D.C. – April 27, 2025 – The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) is deeply shaken by the tragic incident that unfolded at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver, BC, where a driver intentionally plowed into a crowd, causing multiple fatalities and injuries. This horrifying act of violence has left the community in mourning and has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebration of Filipino culture, resilience, and pride.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, those who were injured, and everyone who witnessed this tragic incident at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver, BC,” said Mariela Fletcher, NaFFAA National Chair. “This festival, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage and resilience of the Filipino community, was meant to be a time of joy, unity, and pride. It is heartbreaking that such an unforeseen tragedy has brought pain and loss instead. With heartfelt condolences, we stand with our community in this incredibly difficult time.”

NaFFAA condemns this senseless violence and calls for swift justice for the victims and their families. We urge law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this horrific act and bring the perpetrator to justice. It is crucial that all communities, regardless of background or belief, remain united in rejecting hatred and violence in all forms.
