NaFFAA Announces Letter of Support for Supreme Court Nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee urging them to conduct a fair and swift hearing in the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. The letter, addressed to Chairman Dick Durbin and Ranking Member Grassley, spoke to the positive outlook the Filipino-American community has in further increasing diversity in the judiciary branch.

In the letter, NaFFAA writes:
“Women and persons of color, including Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, have historically been underrepresented on all levels of the court system, despite our growing demographic throughout the United States. The confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson would be a significant step in the right direction to further diversify our judiciary branch.
Judge Jackson has aligned with NAFFAA’s call for fair and transparent policies in the court system for immigration-related decisions. Since its nearly 25 years of existence, NaFFAA has been the voice for now 4.3 million Filipino Americans in the advocacy for comprehensive immigration reform that creates a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and protects the family-based immigration system. Upon confirmation, NaFFAA firmly believes Judge Jackson will represent our Filipino-American community’s principles and uphold the values in the independence of the judiciary.”
The letter represents the scope of NaFFAA’s nationwide network and its support behind Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. As the Filipino-American community continues to grow, NaFFAA believes it is imperative to ensure diverse representation in all levels of government. We are encouraged by the great strides President Joe Biden’s nomination represents.
Last year, NaFFAA announced the launch of its flagship program in partnership with Civic Leadership USA called, “Run for Office“, a nine-week program aimed at giving practical tools for members of the Filipino-American community looking to run for public office. NaFFAA looks forward to continuing this program in 2022, and seeks to recruit judicial candidates.
