But Filipinos are under-represented when it comes to civic participation. According to AAPI Data, only 59% of eligible Filipino voters were registered and only 50% voted in the 2016 election. Since 2002, NaFFAA’s non-partisan civic engagement program, “FilAm Vote,” has aimed to unite, build, and increase political empowerment through voter registration, voter education, voter protection, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV). In 2017, NaFFAA partnered with the New Virginia Majority Education Fund and registered more than 50 new voters, knocked on almost 1,000 doors, and made nearly 5,000 calls in less than 6 weeks for the November 2017 Virginia gubernatorial election.
In 2018, NaFFAA will continue its FilAm Vote program across the country during the 2018 midterm elections targeting key Filipino American states and districts. Click on a tabs below to learn more. Voter Registration Deadlines
All states except North Dakota require citizens to register if they want to become voters. Registration deadlines could be a month ahead before an election depending on your state. For example, Minnesota allows for same-day registration. Check the U.S Vote Foundation to find the registration deadline in your state.

Voter Protection
As long as you’re a registered voter, you have the right to cast your ballot in any election. Constitutional amendments – such as the 15th (a citizen’s right to vote based on that citizen’s “race, color, or previous condition of servitude”), 19th (right to vote to citizens based on sex), and 26th (lowering the voting age to 18 years old) – are laws passed to expand and protect a US citizen’s right to vote.
