Largest Federation of Filipino American Organizations To Hold National Empowerment Conference in Greater Los Angeles

Carson, CA — From Thursday, August 15 to Sunday, August 18, 2019, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) will host the 13th National Empowerment Conference (NEC). This year’s NEC theme, “Make It Count: Transforming Mindsets for 2020 and Beyond,” represents NaFFAA’s concerted effort to  raise awareness around key issues impacting the community, lay out a clear plan of action for the 2020 Census and presidential elections, and to build a unified vision for the community for years to come. The NEC will be held at the Carson Community Center in Carson, CA, and will feature presentations and workshops from a diverse cross-section of Filipino American leaders–representing multiple generations, and from every corner of the United States and abroad.

According to the U.S. Census, there are more than four million Filipinos in the United States. In the state of California, there are more than 1.6 million Filipinos, making up the second largest Asian American subgroup. NaFFAA’ National Chairman, Brendan Flores, states, “By convening the biannual NEC in the Greater Los Angeles area, a region that has the largest concentration of Filipinos in the world outside of Manila, NaFFAA aims to harness the power of a booming, yet undercounted, population in a region with fast-growing representation and influence.”
