NaFFAA Issues Statement Following Passing of Senator John McCain

Washington, DC – The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) joins all Americans in mourning the passing of a true hero, Arizona Senator John McCain. Through his service to this nation as a decorated war veteran and accomplished legislator, Senator McCain is the epitome of patriotism and public service.

NaFFAA National Chairman Brendan Flores said, “Senator John McCain was a giant of the United States Senate—a stalwart legislator who lead by virtue, compassion, and little regard for senseless partisanship. His sensible and pragmatic leadership will be missed. Whether through his service in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Senate, and during his Presidential campaigns, Senator McCain displayed a true commitment to furthering the American principles of freedom and liberty to every corner of this vast and diverse nation. As a Filipino American community, we are forever grateful for his tireless work in advocating for stronger U.S.-Philippine diplomatic relations. Our deepest condolences go out to Senator McCain’s family and friends.”

Marie Cunning, a NaFFAA Trustee and an Arizona resident, added, “Senator McCain’s commitment to representing all Americans, especially Asian Americans, is unparalleled. As an Arizona resident, I can personally attest to his active presence throughout the state, especially at such Filipino American community events as our annual Philippine Independence Day event. They often say actions speak louder than words. Although Senator McCain was soft spoken, his actions spoke volumes. He was a true American hero who will be dearly missed.”
